Job Title: President & CEO   OVERVIEW
The executive director of a chamber of commerce is a key representative and advocate for business owners and employers in a community. According to the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, there are about 3,000 independent U.S. chambers with unique goals determined by diverse groups of members. Despite differences, all chamber directors work to promote and strengthen their communities by building prosperity through a healthy economy and a strong business sector.

High Level – Job Responsibilities

Strategic
  • To build and maintain internal relationships
  • Create and implement the strategic plan with input from the Board of Directors
  • Grow membership by signing on new members.
  • Retain existing members and ensure that their renewal is on time.
Membership Services
  • Plan, organize and oversee a range of services and events for members.
  • Maintain a website that features local business news and a membership directory that is available to the public and potential new customers and clients.
  • Hold regular social events that offer members a chance to network and share information and ideas.
  • Look for common needs among local small business owners and arrange lectures, workshops and training seminars on different management issues and opportunities.
  • Oversee the annual award programs that highlight businesses and business leaders.
Advocacy
  • Take an active part in local government.
  • Advocate for laws and ordinances that benefit business and oppose measures that restrict opportunities and increase costs for employers.
  • Attend city council meetings
Community Ties
  • Lead the business community's efforts to support and enhance our cities.
  • Plan, sponsor, and execute community events
  • Holiday light parade
  • Easter Egg Hunt
  • Annual South County Business Summit
  • Farmers Market
  • Others as determined by the Board of Directors
Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in business or marketing preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in strategic planning, budgets, and finance
  • Effective communication skills – written, verbal, and presentational skills
Salary DOE
In Depth – Job Responsibilities   Development and Management
  • Aggressively grow and maintain membership within the Chamber.
  • Identify and create opportunities to grow the chamber and support the business community through innovative ideas and practices.
  • Responsible for all strategic planning and organizational policy as developed in concert with the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for planning, organizing and execution of board and executive board meetings with the Chairman of the Board as well as staff support.
  • Develop the long-term goals and direction of the Chamber to continuously support the growth and development of business success in the region.
  • Communicate regularly to the Executive Board and Board of Directors on Chamber program and activities, political issues, and other issues relevant to the successes of the Chamber.
Financial Management   Budget & Strategy
  • Responsible for preparing an annual operating budget for the chamber’s operations that delineates project revenues, expenses, and net profits.
  • Lead the appointed Executive Board and Board of Directors in the budgeting process.
  • Proactively develop membership, sponsorship, and fund-raising strategies to further the mission and financial resources of the chamber.
  • Work in concert with the appointed Executive Board and Board of Directors to develop short- and long-term financial strategies.
  • Maintain purchasing thresholds as set by the Executive Board.
Finances: Work in concert with the appointed Executive Board, Board of Directors and any duly contracted independent firm to manage the finances of the chamber properly and ethically. This includes:
  • Responsibility for the timely and accurate monthly billing for all receivable and payable accounts, including but not limited to membership dues, sponsors, and vendors.
  • Responsible for negotiating and evaluating all contracts in the interest and favor of the Chamber of Commerce and with the final approval of the Executive Team.
  • Responsible for the timely and monthly account reconciliation for all banking and credit card accounts.
  • Regularly assess and evaluate financial systems, equipment, vendors, and platforms for cost efficiency, function, and savings.
  • Responsible for ensuring the accuracy and timely reporting of all applicable State and Federal tax filings in concert with the applicable individuals or companies hired to perform these professional services.
Reporting: Responsible for providing accurate and timely reports necessary for the management of the Executive and Chamber Board. This includes but not limited to:
  • Monthly and Year to Date Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, Detailed Statement of Activities, Memberships, and Event/Activity based Profit and Loss.
  • Responsible for providing a record of the Chamber’s annual State and Federal Tax filings.
Public Relations & Marketing
  • Represent and promote the Chamber in City Council meetings at both cities once each month, announcing the activities and business issues that are taking place in the Chamber.
  • Achieve and maintain high visibility in the community to create awareness and increase the perception of the programs, services, and political influence the Chamber can have.
  • Networking with other organizations in the community, civic groups, and the Association of Utah County Chambers to build relationships, gain insight to new opportunities in keeping the Chamber current.
  • Increase the exposure of the chamber through social media outlets, announcing events and programs of the Chamber
  • Oversight of a E-newsletter announcing upcoming events, photos, new members, and other information that will show value to being a Chamber member
  • Oversight of the Chamber website, ensuring it has current and useful content.
  • Coordinate with the local SF-17 TV broadcasting to attend Chamber events, Chamber today program, and other opportunities to spotlight local businesses
  • Coordinate the yearly chamber magazine, A call for quotes is required every third year.
Personnel Management
  • Oversee the management of Chamber staff including hiring, firing, performance reviews, salary and benefits administration, policy, and general supervision in conjunction with the board.
  • Promote a working environment of excellence, external and internal collaboration, and professional standards for the organization
  • Develop and build a positive goal driven culture with the staff measured by results.
  • Coach and develop staff skill sets, promote staff development to achieve higher levels of excellence and goals.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: From $36,000.00 per year
