is concerned with the ever increasing number of solicitors who contact businesses for financial and merchandise contributions. We recognize many of you are generous with your contributions, but the soliciting can be disruptive and often does not contribute to your business or to the business community as a whole.
This is to remind you, and in the case of new businesses, inform you, of RED CARD policies and procedures and we ask for your cooperation.
Red Cards
The Spanish Fork Salem Area Chamber of Commerce
What is a Red Card/?
A RED CARD is provided to individuals or organizations seeking donations of money or merchandise for a non-profit cause. They should present this card to all merchants of whom they are making a request. We ask that each time someone asks for a donation, you request to see their RED CARD. We have also provided you with a sign to display in your store which states that you will ask for a RED CARD.
When you are shown a RED CARD, you will know that the Chamber has screened this activity to be non-profit, worthwhile and beneficial for the individual, the community and often for the businesses. Each applicant for a RED CARD must complete an application (sample attached) and this application must be reviewed by a member of the Chamber Board of Directors. If they are unable to present a RED CARD, please refer them to the Chamber offices at 40 South Main. They can then go through the appropriate channels to obtain a card.
Each individual, or group, that receives a card is informed that the card only says to the person or business being solicited that it has been screened for value and authenticity, it does NOT obligate that business or individual to donate. They are also informed of the tradition of generosity this community has and not to take offense if they are turned down and that the “no” response is usually because the budget for such expenditures has been depleted for that month, quarter or year.
Should you meet with any discourtesy, please let the office know.

Itinerant License
Also, we request that you ask to see a city business license should anyone (who is not one of your regular suppliers) try to sell you products. They need an ‘itinerant’ license. Should they refuse to get one, it sometimes indicates that they might be selling stolen property. It also gives the city the needed information should you need to contact the vendor later.
We appreciate your cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel welcome to contact the Chamber office. 801-798-8352 or office@spanishforkchamber.com
